Greeting Muslims on the occasion of Kurban Bayram, the Floor Leader of Democracy, Rights and Freedoms - MRF (DRF - MRF) Hayri Sadakov wrote on Facebook that this holiday "gives us the opportunity to realize even more deeply the importance of sharing, mutual help, and social solidarity."

"May this holy holiday be an occasion for prosperity, peace, tranquility and happiness for our community, for the country and for all humanity," he noted.

"As we celebrate with our relatives and loved ones, filled with mercy, humility and forgiveness, let us not forget that the essence of Bayram lies in devotion and faithfulness," Sadakov further wrote. "In these blessed days, let us not forget the suffering who live amid ruins, pain and injustice," he added.

"May this celebration, which reminds us that loyalty is always rewarded, strengthen in us the sense of unity, togetherness, tolerance and brotherhood," the Floor Leader further wrote.

Kurban Bayram (Eid al-Adha, or Feast of the Sacrifice) is celebrated for four days, during which families meet and take forgiveness. The day heralding the coming of Bayram is called Arafat Day. Then women knead mekitsa, home-made cakes, prepare halva and distribute the food to their neighbours, relatives and friends for the souls of the deceased. On the first day of the holiday, a traditional prayer called Bayram Namaz is said in which only men participate. It is preceded by the customary morning prayer, Sabah Namaz, and the time between the two is filled with the reading of sermons specially prepared for the occasion. A major tradition of the festival is the sacrifice of animals for health, success, and prosperity. Tradition dictates that the wealthy give a portion of the sacrificed animal to relatives and poor families.
