A Czech Book Corner was unveiled at the National Library in Sofia on Wednesday. It is the 35th book corner featuring a foreign culture in Bulgaria’s main library. Its inauguration, organized by the library, the Czech Embassy and the Czech Cultural Centre in Sofia, coincided with the 125th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.
National Library Director Kalina Ivanova noted the vigorous cultural cooperation of her institution with the Czech Embassy and the Czech Cultural Centre. “I believe that Bulgaria and Czechia will develop further their cultural and educational relations in the spirit of well-meaning partnership,” Ivanova said. She emphasized the significant contribution of Czech scholars, intellectuals and entrepreneurs to the building of Bulgaria after its liberation from Ottoman rule in 1878.
Czech Ambassador Miroslav Toman said: “We have come together to pay tribute to history and to write a new page of cooperation between Bulgaria and Czechia, which continues to develop across all domains.” He stressed the engagement of the Embassy and the Cultural Centre regarding the new book corner.
