National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova, Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil, and Education and Science Minister Krasimir Valchev attended the solemn assembly at the Maxima Aula of the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), to mark the 105th anniversary of the University on Tuesday.
Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil served a thanksgiving prayer service for the health and well-being of the students, lecturers and employees of the century-old institution.
In her speech to the gathering, National Assembly Chair Kiselova described UNWE as "one of the most prestigious universities not only in Bulgaria, but also in Europe".
Minister of Education Valchev said that “UNWE is the largest economic higher education institution in the country, on which Bulgaria relies most for the development of the economy and socio-economic development.”
Wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument of the founder and first Rector of the Free University of Political and Economic Sciences Prof. Stephan Bobchev. The celebration day will end later on Tuesday with a reception at the National Historical Museum. The Rector of UNWE, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, the Chair of the National Assembly, Nataliya Kiselova, and the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova, are expected to address the guests. Ministers, members of parliament, ambassadors, representatives of the academic community and partner organizations are expected to attend the celebration.
