For the sixth time in a row, the NIKE Publishing House will hold a campaign dedicating the month of January to Bulgarian writer and playwright Yordan Radichkov (1929-2004) and this year the participants in the 33rd Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition will become part of this initiative, said the head of the Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions, Prof. Christo Pimpirev.
In the 60s and 80s, Radichkov travelled through the cold lands of Siberia and Scandinavia, drawing inspiration for the creation of works such as The Dium Yards and A Little Northern Saga.
"He was not only a writer, but also an explorer of new worlds, it is no coincidence that one of the peaks of Livingston Island bears the name of the writer, Radichkov Peak. We welcome Radichkov Month with joy and pride at our base on Livingston island," said Pimpirev, quoted by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in a Facebook Post.
The Bulgarian Antarctic Institute goes on to say that this initiative is a reminder of the importance of Bulgarian culture and literature and its presence even in the most remote corners of the world. The collection of literary works of the Bulgarian Antarctic Base on Livingston Island includes the full bibliography of contemporary Bulgarian authors such as Prof. Boyan Biolchev, who has won several national awards and has a peak in Antarctica named after him - Peak Biolchev in Graham Land.
In January, the Bulgarian Antarctic Base on Livingston island will organize readings of selected works by Radichkov, a screening of the documentary film Cherkaski Chronicles by director Dimitar Petkov, and a presentation of the latest translation of Yordan Radichkov's Gunpowder Primer into Spanish, by Victoria Lefterova, which honours the partnership between the Bulgarian and Spanish Antarctic bases, said the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute.
