A national exhibition of Living Human Treasures will open on December 17 under the dome of the Largo in Sofia, the organizers said on Monday. The exhibition is organized by the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore with the Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

The exposition will present all entered elements of intangible cultural heritage during the period 2008-2024. "Living heritage is those who practice it, it is the sustainability and knowledge passed down from generation to generation," states UNESCO's website dedicated to Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Institute of Ethnology and Folklore noted that already in 2008, the International Organization for Science and Culture began to build a UNESCO Representative List of elements of intangible cultural heritage. In the same year, Bulgaria made its first entry into the list and the first national programme of Living Human Treasures was carried out in the country. According to the institute, the national programme Living Human Treasures is one of the two main Bulgarian cultural policies in the field of intangible cultural heritage.

The exhibition is being implemented with the financial support of the Culture Ministry and will be carried out with the courtesy of the Sofia Regional History Museum.
