Novel “The Boxer from Novo Maalo” Will Be Press Launched at North Macedonia’s Cultural Centre in Sofia

The novel “The Boxer from Novo Maalo” by Vladimir Plavevski will be press launched on Tuesday at North Macedonia’s Cultural and Information Centre in Sofia, organizers said.

Participating will be editor and literary critic Plamen Totev and translators Mariyan Petrov and Tanya Popova. Plavevski’s collection of short stories “Dinga stop”, which has been translated in Bulgarian, will also be in the focus of a discussion.

In the book Plavevski tells the story of the street bully of his childhood. Through the story readers can witness the trials of people in Skopje in 1962 and 1963. The novel is set in Skopje’s Novo Maalo district before the earthquake of 1963, when the city was razed to the ground.

The novel received the Stale Popov award for best prose in 2020.

Vladimir Plavevski (1948-2023) is the author of several dramatic texts, screenplays for television series, TV movies and radio plays. In 2013, he received the Novel of the Year award from "Utrinski Vesnik" for his novel "Hook". He was a member of the Writers' Association of Macedonia.
