The history and various aspects of the relations between Bulgaria and the US will be traced in photographs and documents in the exhibition entitled Discovering America. 120 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Bulgaria and the United States. The exhibition opens on Monday and will be on display at Archives Exhibition hall on Moskovska 5 Street, the organizers said.

The exhibition was organized by the Foreign Ministry, America Directorate, the Archive State Agency with the participation of the Scientific Archives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the assistance of BTA.

"A special place is set to the bilateral relations over the last 20 years. Photographs, provided by the BTA, trace the increasingly active ties at various levels between the two countries," say the exhibition organizers.

The exhibition will include documents and photographs from the collections of the Central State Archives, the State Archives of Shumen, Blagoevgrad, Lovech, Plovdiv and Sliven, and the Scientific Archives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.  Documents and photographs will be put on display for the first time, including Januarius McGahan's order for free movement in the Ottoman Empire, a portrait of Woodrow Wilson by Sirak Skitnik, a portrait of Charlie Chaplin by Konstantin Shtarkelov; a photograph of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt with a dedication to Simeon Radev, a photograph by Assen Kermekchiev, Honorary Consul of the US in Bulgaria, Boris Zografov's painting Types from Chicago, and albums of Bulgarian participation in trade and cultural exhibitions in the US, the organizers pointed out.
