The 49th Sofia International Book Fair opened on Tuesday at Sofia's NDK convention centre. The Sofia International Literary Festival and the Sofia International Literary Festival for Children and Youths will take place on its sidelines.

In addition to Vice President Iliana Yotova who opened the forum, attending were caretaker Culture Minister Velislav Minekov, Deputy Culture Minister Plamen Savov, Sofia Regional Governor Mitko Mihaylov, Bilyana Genova, head of the Culture Diretcorate with the Sofia Town Hall, and writers Zahari Karabashliev and Zdravka Evtimova.

Vice President Iotova voiced hope that the VAT rate on books will be reduced and that a national book programme. She said that this is a duty to the coming generations.

Among guests at the 10th Sofia International Literary Festival are Jedrzej Morawiecki, Georgi Tenev, Elias Fragakis, Ruta Sepetys, Domenico Dara, Vincent Engel, David Damrosch, Sophie Daull, Piia Leino, Iris Wolff, Anja Mugerli, Beka Aadamashvilli, Iva Pezuashvili.

The Sofia International Book Fair, the Sofia International Literary Fair and the Sofia International Festival for Children and Youth will be on until December 11.
