During his working visit to Brussels, Minister of Culture Velislav Minekov met with Romanian MEP Ramona Strugariu, a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, the Ministry of Culture announced on Tuesday.
Minekov outlined the main characteristics and challenges facing the media environment in Bulgaria and highlighted the need for change in the system to increase media independence and freedom.
Strugariu expressed her concerns, stressing that she was familiar with the situation and the broader political context in the country.
The two discussed the important role and possible impact of the European Media Freedom Act as a legislative instrument to help improve the situation in Bulgaria and other EU member states that have similar problems.
