“I have not asked for any resignation, the director of the National Theatre is responsible for his administration and it would not be right for me to interfere, but when this leads to a significant problem in one of the most powerful national institutions, a most recognizable and famous one, this inflicts damage on the ministry,” said on the air of bTV caretaker Minister of Culture Prof. Velislav Minekov. He added that next week an investigation will be launched into how the appointments were made at the theatre, and what the salaries were.

According to him, there are several persons who were most likely political appointments. Apart from Velislava Krasteva, the theatre's PR officer who is associated with the MRF, Velislav Minekov also pointed to the person who holds the post of Secretary General at the National Theatre, someone who has worked with the GERB for a long time.

Speaking at a news briefing on Thursday, Minekov said that the National Theatre should not turn into a political interest circle. He urged its director to replace the political activists in his staff with professionals. Minekov also cited an unprecedented rise in the salaries of the artists in the ensemble. According to him, some of them receive a monthly salary of BGN 5,000, which he qualified as disturbing, because even a director in the Ministry of Culture does not receive such monthly remuneration.
