Chair of the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and BSP – United Left Atanas Zafirov discussed key issues for Europe’s left with EU leaders at the Party of European Socialists (PES) Congress in Amsterdam, BSP's press service said on Saturday.
Zafirov held talks with European Council President Antonio Costa, Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez, PES President Stefan Lofven, Secretary-General Giacomo Filibeck, European Commission Vice-President Teresa Ribera, Democratic Party of Italy leader Elly Schlein, Chair of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament Iratxe Garcia Perez, and PES Women President Zita Gurmai.
Zafirov said that strengthening the social dimensions of EU policies, such as safeguarding workers’ rights, reducing inequality, and promoting sustainable regional development, is especially important for Bulgaria. According to the BSP press service, the party is prepared to play an active role in building a united, social, and solidarity-based Europe that balances national interests with shared European objectives.
“Europe’s strength lies in the hands of working people,” Zafirov said at the PES Congress in Amsterdam on Friday.
