In a press release on Wednesday, MPs from Vazrazhdane called on all Members of Parliament not to attend the extraordinary meeting of the Environment and Water Committee on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski urged National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova to convene an extraordinary meeting of Parliament’s Environment Committee to draft and adopt a National Assembly decision for the immediate, effective, and decisive resolution of Bulgaria’s systemic water crisis.

“Peevski demanded that the Parliament Chair urgently convene a meeting of the Environment and Water Committee. Just a few hours later, Kiselova obediently carried out the order. Naturally, she could not know, as Parliament Chair, that MRF - New Beginning MPs had not been attending meetings of the Environment Committee, nor of the ad-hoc committee tasked with investigating all facts and circumstances concerning the water shortage in the country,” Vazrazhdane said.

The party further noted that the ad-hoc committee had completed its report on July 3, 2025, which has been awaiting to be voted in Parliament. “It never made it onto Parliament’s agenda, and we can rightfully conclude that it was not considered important either by the Chair or by the ruling parties,” Vazrazhdane wrote. Some of the proposed measures in the report include the protection of water sources, the efficient use of extracted resources, and the reduction of water losses.

“With effective measures already available that could address the water crisis in our country, yet lying dormant in Parliament’s registry, the convening of the Environment and Water Committee at Peevski’s request for tomorrow [Thursday] only demonstrates that the water crisis is clearly being artificially manufactured,” Vazrazhdane argued.

Vazrazhdane MPs will not attend the committee’s Thursday extraordinary meeting.
