A total of 503 violations of the Road Traffic Act were detected by patrols of the Gendarmerie Directorate between August 16 and 22, the Gendarmerie Directorate reported on Friday.
There were two cases of drunk driving, one case of drug-impaired driving, four people were caught driving without a valid driving licence. Eighty-nine drivers were found to have failed to undergo an annual technical inspection or take out compulsory third-party liability insurance, and a further 108 minor violations were detected. Those responsible were penalized with 302 electronic tickets and penalty notices.
The Gendarmerie Directorate will deploy officers on the Hemus and Trakia motorways on Friday and Sunday due to the expected heavy traffic. The Road Traffic Act authorizes the officers to conduct roadside stops and inspections. The patrols operate primarily in remote and small towns, as well as on highways.
