Speaking to reporters during a working visit to Plovdiv on Wednesday, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said that he does not perceive any preliminary rise in the cost of living linked to Bulgaria’s upcoming adoption of the euro, stressing that the government and regulatory bodies are handling the process well. “When Bulgarians travel to Greece, they already pay their bills in euros, what’s so frightening about becoming like Germany, France, or Italy?” Borissov commented.

Turning to the water crisis in some Bulgarian municipalities, Borissov voiced hope that the authorities will act swiftly to bring water supplies, drill wells, and repair the water distribution network. He criticized former finance minister Assen Vassilev of Continue the Change for reallocating funds from the water sector. “Five or six years ago, I left BGN 1.2 billion earmarked for water infrastructure. Assen Vassilev took the money and spent it on pensions,” Borissov argued.

While in Plovdiv, Borissov and Metropolitan Nikolay visited a church under construction in the city’s Trakia district. He also inspected the building of a new tribune at Lokomotiv Stadium together with Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov.
