Vice President Iliana Iotova expressed expectations that the parameters submitted by Bulgaria to the European Commission will be recognised by the European institutions and the country will receive a positive eurozone convergence report . Speaking to journalists in Pazardzhik (Southern Bulgaria) on Wednesday, she stressed that the convergence report has very strict criteria for assessing the progress and readiness of a country to adopt the euro as an official currency or not.
“As for the motives of President Rumen Radev, wait, he will be back from Japan soon and I think there will be a continuation,” Iotova replied to a question related to the head of State's intention to refer to the Constitutional Court regarding the order of National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova not to allow his request for the Parliament to vote a referendum on Bulgaria's eurozone bid for 2026.
"We should roll up our sleeves and get Bulgaria out of the crisis as soon as possible, to raise people's incomes, to meet the euro, since this is our country's decision, with as little damage as possible," the Vice President further said.
All the conditions for Bulgaria to join the eurozone are in place, Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Governor Dimitar Radev said on Tuesday, pointing out that the goal is for this to happen from January 1, 2026.
