The Saints Cyril and Methodius Sunday School in Egypt will open its doors once again, Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev, quoted by the Foreign Ministry press service, said on Thursday during his two-day visit to Cairo. The school had been inactive for a long time.
The Embassy of Bulgaria in Cairo celebrated May 24, the Day of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slav Letters. The event was attended by representatives of the Bulgarian communities in Egypt and Sudan, their families and friends of Bulgaria, as well as representatives of Egyptian and Bulgarian businesses.
Georgiev highlighted the role of writing for the Bulgarian identity and the fact that Bulgaria became the first country to adopt the Cyrillic alphabet. The Minister also highlighted the work of Cyril and Methodius, of their disciples, and their significant contribution to spreading light and spirituality among the other Slavic nations.
