The European Chief Prosecutor has informed the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, and the European Commission that the College of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has decided to open an administrative enquiry into possible wrongdoing by the Bulgarian European Prosecutor in the framework of an ongoing EPPO investigation, EPPO said on Wednesday.
The responsibility for the assessment of the information at the origin of this administrative enquiry in relation to the independence of the European Prosecutor lies with the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, and the European Commission. It is an essential requirement for the initial appointment of European Prosecutors and for their ability to perform their duties during their time in office.
The independence of all our prosecutors is one of the core values of the EPPO, which is essential to the discharge of our mission.
The European Prosecutors are appointed by the Council of the EU.
