Former justice minister [in Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha's cabinet between July 2001 and August 2005] Anton Stankov has been nominated for the post of ombudsman, the National Assembly press centre confirmed to BTA here on Monday. The proposal was submitted on March 7 on behalf of the non-profit organization Bulgarian School of Politics Dimitry Panitza.  

Nominations for ombudsman can be submitted in writing to the Commission for Direct Citizens Participation, Complaints and Interaction with Civil Society within 28 days of the adoption of the procedural rules which took place on February 13. Proposals could be made by MPs, parliamentary groups and non-profit legal entities for public benefit. They must be submitted in writing to the parliamentary committee through the president of the National Assembly.

Stankov was born on February 17, 1966. He was a regional judge at Shumen Regional Court (1992-1994), a regional judge at Sofia Regional Court (1993-1997), a judge at Sofia City Court (1997-1999), as well as a lecturer in criminal procedure at Sofia University (2000-2001). He was the chairperson of the Criminal Collegium of Sofia City Court (1999-2001). He was chairperson of the Commission for the Coordination of Anti-Corruption Work (February 2002 -  August 2005). Between September 2005 and June 2007 he returned to the position of a judge at Sofia City Court. Stankov was deputy chair of the National Bureau for Control of Special Intelligence Means (May - October 2009). Since May 2012 he has been a Managing Partner of a law firm.
