site.btaSocialist Party Leader Zafirov Says "Real Freedom is Achieved When Guns Stop Firing"

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Chairman Atanas Zafirov said on Facebook: "Let's remember the deeds of our ancestors, but let's not forget our responsibility to our children."

Zafirov paid tribute "to our ancestors and our Christian and Slav brothers, who sacrificed their lives for the resurrection of Bulgaria during the Russo-Turkish War (...) and to the builders of Bulgarian statehood, because freedom is not only won, it is defended".

In his words, although short-lived, the ideal of San Stefano Bulgaria is a testament to the significance of the Bulgarian spirit and roots, deeply intertwined with the history of Eastern Europe. Its destruction is a testimony to the vagaries of history, added the BSP leader.

Zafirov said Bulgarians must declare that real freedom is achieved when guns stop firing; that the brightest minds of the Bulgarian Liberation movement held guns but thought about the future just and fair organization of the state and the world; that "Eastern Europe is an eternal crossroads, but it depends on our maturity for it to become more of a peaceful crossroads".
