The second plenary session of the 51st National Assembly will open on Wednesday. MPs are meeting in a regular session after the Christmas and New Year recess, according to information on the parliament's website.
According to the National Assembly's rules of organization, each session opens with the anthem of Bulgaria and of the European Union.
The MPs begin their work with a hearing of the caretaker ministers of interior and health Atanas Ilkov and Galya Kondeva on control of the distribution of the narcotic substance, according to Parliament's draft programme.
In the first days of 2025, a 14-year-old boy from Pleven who smoked a vape with hexahydrocannabinol died after falling from the seventh floor. The hearing was requested by the parliamentary group of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria.
On a proposal of Vazrazhdane, the draft agenda for the first Wednesday of the month includes a hearing of Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Violeta Koritarova and Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov in connection with power outages which affected nearly 200 settlements in different regions of the country over the holidays.
On a proposal of BSP-United Left a hearing of Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev is scheduled on the case of the registration of the Old Calendar Orthodox Church of Bulgaria and the measures taken by the state and the government to protect the state and public interest before the Strasbourg Court and the Supreme Court of Cassation.
The draft agenda for this week also includes a hearing of the chairman of the State Agency for National Security Plamen Tonchev, the director of the Defence Intelligence Service Venelin Venev and the chairman of the State Intelligence Agency Antoan Gechev on the measures the government is taking to ensure security in connection with the processes in the Middle East, in particular in Syria, and possible future refugee waves. The motion for a hearing was tabled by Kiril Veselinski of MECh.
On Friday, a blitz control is scheduled at 9 am and a regular Question Time at 11 am.
