The failure of GERB-UDF's government-formation talks may result in new elections, Vazrazhdane Deputy Floor Leader Petar Petrov told journalists in Parliament here on Monday.

On Sunday, GERB-UDF announced that it was terminating the government-formation talks with Democratic Bulgaria (DB) which refused to support their nominations for prime minister.

Petrov noted that the only issue for DB was GERB-UDF’s candidate for prime minister, and they had no problem forming a government with GERB again. He added that Vazrazhdane believes this would be harmful to the country.

Petrov said that if the third mandate comes to Vazrazhdane, they are ready to propose a government, even if it has to be a minority one.

Petrov was speaking after participating in a roundtable in Parliament on legislative changes needed to address traffic accidents and ensure effective punishment for offenders, organized by the Angels on the Road association.

Speaking earlier in the day, President Rumen Radev said that he will "give a little more time - a few more days, in the hope that the [government-forming] negotiators realise that their responsibility is not only to their own voters and parties, but to the whole Bulgarian people". He was commenting on the forthcoming handing over of the first exploratory mandate to form a cabinet.
