New Access System and Traffic Organization in Front of Sofia Airport's Terminal 2 in Place from Jan. 9

А new access system and traffic organization will be in place in front of Sofia Airport's Terminal 2 from January 9, SOF Connect, the operator of the airport, said on Friday. The system is in line with the European best practices and aims to improve traffic management, safety and service quality for passengers and visitors. The system will offer flexible and convenient short stay and parking solutions to prevent congestion.

"SOF Connect is actively working to provide travellers with a safer, more convenient and better organized passenger experience at Terminal 2. The introduction of the controlled access system is an important step in the transformation of Sofia Airport into a modern European airport. It is based on the highest European standards and successful models of airports such as Munich, Amsterdam and Rome, which have proven the effectiveness of such traffic management," SOF Connect CEO Jesus Caballero said .

As of January 9, all travellers who want to reach Terminal 2 by car will pass through barrier systems that register car numbers.

Kiss & Ride zone

The new system will introduce the Kiss & Ride concept, an area specifically designed for short free of charge stays where drivers can drop off or pick up passengers without blocking traffic. In the Kiss & Ride area, drivers will have 10 minutes of free of charge stay in front of the Terminal 2 building to drop off or pick up passengers. The minimum time between two free of charge entries is 60 minutes.

Those who exceed the free-stay time will be charged as follows:

BGN 10 from 11 to 30 minutes;
BGN 15 from 31 to 59 minutes;
BGN 20 for every hour started.

An extended free stay of up to 30 minutes is provided for vehicles of passengers with reduced mobility.

Tourist transfer buses will be entitled to stay 30 minutes free of charge in the Kiss & Ride area and at the nearby P8 car park until the end of March 2025. The minimum time between two free entries is 60 minutes. Bus drivers who exceed the free stay time will be charged as follows:

BGN 30 from 31 to 59 minutes;
BGN 40 for every hour started.

Public transport will have unlimited free access to Terminal 2.

Parking in the Kiss & Ride area or in the streets surrounding Terminal 2 is not permitted. For all passengers and visitors, Sofia Airport offers three car parks with different price categories suitable for longer stays.
