Ministry of Environment and Water staffers have blocked a busy Sofia junction to press demands for better pay and working conditions. Among the protestors were staffers of the Environment Executive Agency, the regional environment inspectorates, the basin directorates and the national parks.

They are backed by the Federation of Independent Trade Unions in Agriculture and the Federation of Labour Organizations in Forestry and the Timber Industry with the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria.

The demands include a 30% pay raise for November and December 2024 and by at least 15% for 2025.

The protest was supported by workers in various Environment Ministry units, who rallied outside the Ministry offices in central Sofia during the time of the road blockade.
