There Is Such a People (TISP) Floor Leader Toshko Yordanov urged Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) here on Tuesday to accept the 51st National Assembly's oldest MP as the Parliamentary Chair, until another one gets elected. Currently, the oldest MP is TISP's Silvi Kirilov.

A total of five candidates were put forward on Monday to head the National Assembly (GERB-UDF's Raya Nazaryan, CC-DB's Andrey Tsekov, Vazrazhdane's Petar Petrov, BSP - United Left's Nataliya Kiselova and TISP's Nikoleta Kuzmanova), but none gathered enough votes to take the position.

Yordanov proposed to have Kirilov be Chair as a compromise, until a majority is formed, as otherwise too much time could be wasted. CC-DB Co-Chair Assen Vassilev replied that his coalition's approach is different. CC-DB would finalize this conversation only when they have clarity on exactly what the legislative agenda will be.

The meeting between CC-DB and TISP is part of CC-DB's initiative to develop the legislative agenda of the 51st National Assembly. Representatives of the two political entities discussed the possibility of using the declaration proposed by CC-DB to create a "sanitary cordon" around Delyan Peevski, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms - New Beginning, as a basis for the creation of a package of bills to be adopted by the 51st National Assembly in the first three months of its life. CC-DB was represented by Vassilev, Kiril Petkov, Bozhidar Bozhanov, Atanas Atanassov, Ivaylo Mirchev and Vasil Pandov. TISP's representatives were Yordanov, Kuzmanova and Aleksandar Rashev.

Petkov and Yordanov exchanged folders. CC-DB's had a declaration for the establishment of a cordon around Peevski, while TISP's had a declaration for eliminating the tombstone voting from the electoral lists.

TISP agreed that the Judicial System Act should be amended related to the termination of the procedure for the election of a new prosecutor general by a Supreme Judicial Council with an expired term. The party also agreed with CC-DB's proposed measures to fight against corruption and money laundering.

Vassilev reported that his coalition has already agreed to amend the Electoral Code. He said that the focus should be on a small number of laws that are drafted after a consensus is reached and that can be implemented within specific timeframes. He added that the Budget Act should also fall within those timeframes.

Rashev said that his party has suggestions on ways to amend the Judicial System Act that would limit the powers of the prosecutor general. He indicated that TISP is seeking speed and transparency of court proceedings and shortening of time frames so that justice can be delivered faster.
