Expired warranties on voting machines do not create a problem, caretaker Minister of e-Government Valentin Mundrov told Nova TV in response to a question about the expiration date of 9,600 out of 12,000 voting machines to be used in the snap elections on October 27. According to Minister Mundrov, the expiry date of the machines does not imply defects, but rather that the devices will be subject to out-of-warranty maintenance.

He also pointed out that before every election, the Central Election Commission (CEC) performs preventive maintenance and diagnostics on the machines, which meets the manufacturer's requirements and thus ensures that the machines will not be damaged. He added that in the forthcoming parliamentary elections on October 27, there will be 9,353 voting machines in Bulgaria and 147 outside the country, and all of them will undergo preventive maintenance and diagnostics. In addition, a check will be made to ensure that the software installed on these machines is the one that was generated on October 11, he explained.

“In these elections, our goal is to increase the number of machines checked, and each machine will be selected at random,” Minister Mundrov said, adding that the machines have been certified to be fit for the elections.
