The highest temperature on Saturday in Bulgaria was recorded in Sandanski, southwestern Bulgaria, where it was 39C at 3 p.m., showed data on the website of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH).
In Ruse, on the Danube, the highest temperature was 38C, and in Svishtov, Silistra and Knezha (northern Bulgaria) it was 37C.
In Sofia on Saturday the temperature reached 34C. Lower temperatures were recorded near the Black Sea coast. Thermometers in Burgas showed 29C and in Varna - 31C.
NIMH had announced an orange code for high temperatures throughout the country for Saturday. During the night it will be mostly clear and almost quiet. Sunday will also be sunny and hot. Light to moderate east-northeasterly winds will blow in the east. Highs will be mostly between 35C and 40C, and around 36C in Sofia.
