site.btaGERB Repeat They Will Not Support Government Formed under Second or Third Mandate

The GERB party on Tuesday confirmed their decision that they will not support under any conditions a government formed under the second or the third exploratory mandate after the GERB cabinet proposed under the first mandate was voted down by the National Assembly on July 3. The party said in a position statement on Tuesday: "The vows and the calls to support a cabinet under the second or the third mandate are aimed at resolving party and coalition issues without being guided by principles. This is not a way to address issues that are important to society."

The party finds that the differences and the antagonisms among the parliamentary groups in the 50th National Assembly, elected on June 9, do not provide the necessary basis for putting together a stable government. The statement recalls that after the elections GERB-UDF were the only force to propose a formula for joint governance and shared responsibility, a government with a clear political programme and goals.

"Voters understand that if you decline to negotiate with the election winner but you propose talks with the party that came in second, third, fourth etc., this is political stubbornness, not reason. We count on political maturity in the forthcoming election campaign as a prerequisite for forming a government under the next National Assembly," GERB said in conclusion.
