Radioactive water from Kozloduy N-plant has leaked within the hermetically sealed area of the controlled zone and has not spread outside, caretaker Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov said in Parliament during a hearing in plenary on Thursday. The hearing was demanded by BSP for Bulgaria following reports of an incident after the shutting down of Unit 6 of the N-plant.
The radioactive water leak occurred at 07:25 hrs on June 18. The volume of the leak has been estimated at 8 to 9.5 cu m.
The hermetically sealed area has a system that collects possible leaks and sent them back for treatment in the technological cycle and nothing is discharged in the environment.
