The Council of Ministers decided to forgo carrying out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for an investment proposal for renovation of the port infrastructure and extension of the water area of the Varna Naval Base. The decision was based on a reasoned proposal by the Minister of Environment and the Minister of Defence.

The implementation of the decision of the Council of Ministers will contribute to the successful implementation of the project, related to ensuring reliable access of ships to the shipping location, achieving sufficient navigational depth, deployment of the dredged material in designated areas, high environmental protection of the adjacent areas, reliable protection of the population and the environment, and minimal risk of accidents, the government information service said.
