President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Rumen Radev will participate in the upcoming NATO Summit on July 9 - 11 in Washington, the Council of Ministers said Friday.

Caretaker Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dimitar Glavchev will also take part in the meeting, according to the government press service.

The forum is the highest level of decision-making in the Alliance and will mark the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty, signed in Washington, USA. Decisions to be taken at the meeting entail the implementation of long-term commitments by allies, with a particular focus on investment in the defence of each NATO member country and long-term support for Ukraine and its financial backing, the statement noted.

On Thursday, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev sent a letter to National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryan and the parliamentary groups in the 50th Parliament asking them to decide who will represent Bulgaria at the NATO summit.

MRF and CC-DB opposed Radev representing Bulgaria at the forum, asking the prime minister to do so, while BSP wanted the country to be represented by the President. Velichie said the decision should be taken by the Council of Ministers.
