site.btaHungarian President Sulyok: Russian-Ukrainian War Must Be Resolved Diplomatically
The Russian-Ukrainian war must be resolved diplomatically; an immediate ceasefire and a just and lasting peace are needed, Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok said at the press briefing after meeting with visiting Bulgarian counterpart Rumen Radev in Budapest Saturday. He said there is a worrying possibility of an escalation of the conflict and said that he and President Radev were against sending European troops to Ukraine. Hungary strongly condemns the Russian aggression and stands by the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Sulyok said. He pointed out that Hungary has provided and continues to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
On energy security, he said that Bulgaria plays a key role in the transit of natural gas to Hungary, and that its role could be strengthened in the future by importing natural gas from Azerbaijan and Turkiye.
“After the severe migration crisis, our countries have learnt a historical lesson and are of the same opinion that migration should be stopped and the causes should be treated, not the symptoms,” Sulyok added.
