At this stage, the additional resources provided for salaries in the healthcare sector are ahead of the inflation rates, Deputy Health Minister Ilko Getov told journalists here on Monday. He took part in the opening of a renovated emergency ward at the Dr Tota Venkova Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment in Gabrovo.

The main problem in the healthcare sector is the provision of personnel, mostly nurses. That applies to hospital and emergency care alike, the Deputy Minister noted. The other problems are related to the outdated infrastructure and the need of capital investment in hospitals. The Health Ministry will continue investing in State-owned hospitals, he added.

In his words, progress is made towards an increase in salaries, aiming for the levels of remunerations in the collective labour agreement. These should be reached in late February 2024.
