A 35-year old man tried to buy votes for municipal councillors in Dupnitsa for BGN 1,800, Chief Commissioner Svetoslav Grigorov, head of the local police department in Kyustendil, told a news briefing on Thursday. The man has been detained for violation of the election legislation and rigging the election result in the first round of voting.

Ahead of the Sunday runoffs the police carried out an operation to counter election violations on Thursday. Teams searched five locations and seized lists of names, phones, laptops and expected voting results by polling stations.

Three quick police pretrial proceedings have been launched under the supervision of the district prosecution in Kyustendil.

He said that the police have worked on 38 cases, and eight pretrial proceedings have been launched.

Grigorov would not say the total number of detained persons as investigations are still underway.
