The Central Election Commission (CEC) rejects accusations of violating Election Code provisions, CEC Chair Kameliya Neykova said at an extraordinary briefing on Saturday.

"We believe that they constitute interference in the work of an independent state body," she said. Neykova urged institutions to let the CEC do its job of conducting the elections.

Neykova stressed that enough paper ballots are available for the Sunday vote. She said the desire of some voters to vote on a machine is understandable, and that she also prefers to vote on a machine, but believes that the information received at the CEC is sufficient for the Commission to take measures not to compromise the election process.

Regarding calls for the CEC to reconsider Friday's decision to scrap machine voting, Neykova said that the CEC finds no reason to do so. Eight appeals against the CEC's decision have been lodged, and all the facts and circumstances that gave the CEC grounds to adopt the decision will be examined by the Supreme Administrative Court, she noted.

The CEC took a justified and lawful decision, taking into account all the facts and circumstances that came to the Commission's attention, Neykova said. She pointed out that their motives were not to allow voting to be compromised, to respect the law, but above all to secure trust in the election process.

No information has been received by the CEC so far that would contradict the data contained in the SANS report on illegal actions of the deputy minister of e-government, carried out on October 25, Neykova said.

The CEC expects authorities such as SANS, the Prosecution Office and the Interior Ministry, which are involved in checking all the facts, circumstances and evidence related to the unlawful actions of the deputy minister of e-government, to finish their work and come up with their final conclusions, she added.

Asked about a possible request for the annulment of the elections, Neykova said that it is to be referred to the relevant administrative court.
