"Public health is a key element of U.S. foreign policy and the State Department has established a new Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD). This is a sign that working closely with our partners and allies on health is a priority for the United States. Including Bulgaria to help it improve its health policy," US Ambassador to Bulgaria Kenneth Merten said in his opening remarks at an international conference on sustainable healthcare in Bulgaria, held in Sofia on Thursday.
The discussion is jointly organized by representatives the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Bulgarian-Swiss Chamber of Commerce. The event was also attended by German Ambassador Irene Maria Planck and Swiss Ambassador Raymund Furrer.
The cooperation with Bulgaria will be wide-ranging, Merten said. It will cover exchange of experience and prevention programmes, educational programmes for medics, screening programmes, in the field of regulations and licensing of new medicines, etc.
