MPs will discuss an anti-corruption bill on second reading on Tuesday. This is the second item on the agenda, published on the National Assembly's website. The sitting will begin at 9:00 a.m.

The anti-corruption bill was submitted by Desislava Atanasova MP of GERB-UDF and a group of MPs. It was adopted on second reading by Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee on September 12.

The bill establishes an Anti-Corruption Committee, which will consist of three members, each of whom will chair the Committee for two years on a rotating basis. The members will be elected by the National Assembly with a six-year term of office.

The bill also stipulates that every time new Committee leadership is elected, a special nomination committee of five independent members shall be formed - one member each proposed by the Supreme Court of Cassation, the Supreme Bar Council, the Justice Ministry, the Ombudsman, and the National Audit Office. The nomination committee will assess the professional and moral qualities of each of the candidates and will hear them in an open session.

According to the bill, the Anti-Corruption Committee will carry out actions to prevent, detect, and investigate corruption offenses by collecting, analyzing, and verifying information when corruption by persons holding public office is reported.

The first item on Parliament’s agenda on Tuesday is the first reading of a bill to amend and supplement the Extradition and the European Arrest Warrant Act submitted by the Council of Ministers on April 13, 2023.
