President Rumen Radev Friday conferred the Order of the Madara Horseman, First Class, on the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Lee Ho-shik. The ceremony took place in the Coat of Arms Hall of the Presidency.

The Ambassador was awarded the Order for his outstanding services to the development of bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Korea.

Ambassador Lee Ho-shik's tenure was not easy and coincided with the global pandemic of COVID-19, President Rumen Radev said at the ceremony. However, Lee Ho-shik made serious efforts to preserve political contacts, promote trade and economic cooperation and especially to develop cultural, educational, scientific and youth exchanges, the Head of State said.

Thanks to the efforts of Ambassador Lee Ho-shik, Korean language education at Sofia University and the 18th school in the capital continues to develop even more intensively, Radev added. In the President's words, the Korean ambassador has worked so that Bulgaria is presented with dignity with all its achievements in his home country. The President thanked Lee Ho-shik for the friendship, for his tireless efforts to ensure that the two countries cooperate and that the two peoples get to know each other more deeply and look confidently and together to a better future for the world.

Ambassador Lee Ho-shik said that he was delighted and honoured to receive the Order. I found Bulgaria to be a wonderful country with amazing natural and with extremely kind and nice people, the Ambassador said.

Unfortunately, Bulgaria was not so well known to Korea, he said, adding that he had published a book to introduce our country to his compatriots. This is the first book in Korean about Bulgaria, the ambassador noted. He said he had tried to promote cooperation between the two countries.

Bulgaria will always be in my heart, Ambassador Lee Ho-shik said in Bulgarian.

The Madara Horseman Order is conferred on foreign and Bulgarian nationals with major contribution to the establishment, strengthening, and development of relations with Bulgaria.
