site.btaUPDATED Sofia Mayor: We Face Challenges of Financial Crisis, Inflation, Political Deadlock

“We are facing the challenges of financial crisis, inflation and political deadlock,” Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova told the delegates of the 11th Congress of the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour held at Sofia’s NDK convention centre.
Mayor Fandakova stressed that the generation whose career path enjoyed more than 30 years of support from the trade union has produced active, working people and reinforced the belief that there is strength in unity. “Over the last 14 years since I have been Mayor of Sofia, together with you and the other social partners, we have been changing the city - slowly, but steadily and surely,” Fandakova said, adding that the best investment is in people and in their preparation, but trained staff is lacking in almost all sectors.
According to Mayor Fandakova, it is also a good investment to provide adequate wages, healthcare and working conditions, because people are the most valuable in any sphere, and they need security and stability to be effective. She listed the areas in which workers' salaries have been raised: transport, education, health, culture and social work.
