site.btaGovernment Approves Draft EU-Mexico Strategic Partnership Agreement
At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers endorsed the EU-Mexico Modernised Global Agreement (MGA), officially known as the Strategic Partnership Agreement on Political Affairs, Economic Relations and Cooperation.
The deepening of EU-Mexico partnership would bring long-term benefits both to the EU as a whole and to Bulgaria, the government information service said, adding that it would improve market access for goods and services, diversify trade relations and supply chains, encourage investment, enhance security and help address global challenges.
In this context, the government authorized Bulgaria's Permanent Representative to the EU to sign the Strategic Partnership Agreement, subject to subsequent ratification. The signing by the EU and Mexico is scheduled for the end of May 2026.
At the 7th EU-Mexico Summit, held in Brussels in June 2015, the sides confirmed their intention to initiate negotiations, in accordance with the legal framework of each party, and to enhance the strategic partnership. Following the conclusion of negotiations at political level on the Politics and Cooperation pillar in 2018, an agreement was also reached on the Trade and Investment pillar on January 17, 2025.
