A memorial plaque dedicated to local historian and researcher of family history Petr Caireac was officially unveiled in Taraclia. The memorial installation is located in front of Caireac’s home and was created by cultural figure, founder of the theatre in Taraclia and honorary citizen of the town Ivan Borimecicov.
Representatives of the local authorities, cultural and educational institutions, public figures, local historians, students from the Taraclia high school and local residents attended the ceremony. The organizers also arranged an exhibition of Caireac’s works and a photo-documentary display presenting moments from his life, research activity and public contribution.
Taraclia District Deputy Chair Sergey Filippov said that practically every family in Taraclia knows Caireac thanks to the family trees he researched and documented for every family and lineage.
Acting Mayor of Taraclia Marta Kemenchedji said preserving the town’s history is of great importance.
Caireac’s granddaughter Ludmila Shebolenko expressed gratitude on behalf of the family and said the next step should be to name the Taraclia high school after him.
Earlier, the Bulgarian community in Taraclia District also unveiled a monument to Petr Caireac in the centre of Taraclia.
Petr Caireac (January 30, 1914 – January 31, 2004) was a local historian and researcher of Taraclia's family history. He devoted many years to collecting, systematizing and preserving information about the origins of local families, family ties and the historical memory of the Bessarabian Bulgarians. His research contributed to promoting family history as an important part of the community’s cultural identity.
