Bulgaria's Parliament Ratifies Agreements on Implementation of Cross-Border Cooperation Programmes with Serbia, Turkiye

Bulgaria’s Parliament Thursday ratified an agreement on the implementation of Interreg VI-A IPA Bulgaria-Serbia 2021-2027, a cross-border cooperation programme with a total budget of EUR 38 million. The programme area covers Bulgaria's regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Sofia, Pernik and Kyustendil and Serbia's districts of Bor, Zajecar, Nisava, Toplica, Pirot, Jablanica and Pcinja, according to the website of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. The programme will finance projects under three priorities: Competitive Border Region, Integrated Development of the Border Region and More Sustainable Border Region, which will implement a pre-defined project of strategic importance related to preparing the population for disaster response and increasing the capacity of emergency response professionals in the cross-border area.

Beneficiaries can be local/regional authorities, regional structures of central public authorities, non-governmental organizations, academic and training institutions, research and development activities, social institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their professional organizations.

Parliament also ratified an agreement on the implementation of the INTERREG VI-A IPA Bulgaria - Turkiye 2021-2027 programme. The aim was to ensure the timely ratification of the agreement between Bulgaria and Turkiye and the implementation of the bilateral cooperation programme. The general objective of the programme is to strengthen the territorial convergence of the cross-border region Bulgaria-Turkiye by providing support for increasing the competitiveness of the local economy, digital and green transformation and expanding access and improving the quality of services of common interest, according to the Ministry’s website.
