Burgas Regional Governor Vladimir Krumov on Monday opened a joint training between law enforcement authorities from Bulgaria and Turkiye, with the aim to exchange experience and good practices for coordinated efforts and joint actions against illegal migration in the cross-border region. The training is part of the main activities under a project for capacity building and improving cooperation of law enforcement authorities in the field of migration in the regions of Burgas, Haskovo, Yambol, as well as Edirne and Kirklareli Provinces.

The project is funded under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme between Bulgaria and Turkiye and is worth over EUR 1.7 million. It will be implemented until November 8, 2025 and envisages the purchase of devices for checking false documents, optical passport readers, vehicles with cameras and license plate recognition systems, and technical equipment for the regional police and regional immigration services, as well as for the regional police in Edirne, which is entrusted with guarding the Bulgarian-Turkish border. Bulgarian and English language courses will be organized as well to improve the language skills of Turkish and Bulgarian employees.

Among the official guests at the opening were the Consul General of the Republic of Turkiye in Burgas, Tolga Orkun, Edirne Deputy Regional Governor Sidki Zehin and Kirklareli Deputy Regional Governor Yusuf Guler, as well as Burgas Police Director Chief Commissioner Vladimir Marinov and Nalyan Gudzen, Head of the Joint Secretariat for the 2021-2027 INTERREG Bulgaria - Turkiye Programme.
