Grigorios Zarotiadis, Professor of Economics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, said here on Tuesday that the University participates in various initiatives and programmes and pointed out an initiative that started about 10 years ago - to create a European Group for Territorial Cooperation on the territory of South-Eastern Europe called HELICAS.
According to Zarotiadis, the collective efforts of important Greek and Bulgarian institutions led to the founding of HELICAS. He stated that the Balkans have deep historical and strong ties, and Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Greece are currently included in the initiative.
He was speaking at the 5th Bulgaria-Greece cross-border conference, held as part of BTA's project "Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future". The conference is held simultaneously in Thessaloniki and Blagoevgrad.
