Bulgaria's Deputy Foreign Minister Kostadin Kodzhabashev met Wednesday in Sofia with Albania's Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Megi Fino, the Foreign Ministry said on its website.

The two discussed the potential for deepening relations between the two countries in areas such as regional cooperation, European integration of the Western Balkans, economy, connectivity and infrastructure, transport, education, culture.

"Albania is an important partner and friend of Bulgaria. It is in our common interest to make more efforts to strengthen bilateral dialogue and establish closer relations of good neighbourliness and friendship," Kodzhabashev said.

The officials also discussed Albania's consistent efforts to protect minority rights since the adoption of the Law on the Protection of National Minorities in the Republic of Albania in 2017. Kodzhabashev said that the Bulgarian national minority in Albania is an important factor in strengthening the mutual trust that exists between the two countries and represents a kind of "bridge of friendship".

In 2023, Bulgaria and Albania mark 110 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations and 30 years since the signing of the bilateral Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.
