Over 50,000 people have died due to the earthquakes in Turkiye of February 6, Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) governor Yunus Sezer said here on Monday, as quoted by the State-run TRT television. According to the latest figures, the exact number of people killed by the quakes is 50,096, while 107,204 were injured, Sezer specified.
More than 300 people have been arrested over being responsible, to varying extent, for the technical condition and compliance with building standards of the collapsed buildings.
Earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 rocked Southeastern Turkiye on February 6. The earthquakes, followed by thousands of aftershocks, seriously affected 11 Turkish provinces as well as neighbouring Syria.
