Bulgaria's best female tennis player Viktoriya Tomova scored a victory in the first round of the prestigious UTA 1000 hard court tournament in Miami.

Tomova beat American Katie McNally 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in 2:16 hours of play.

In the second round Tomova will face women's world No 1 and top seed Arina Sabalenka from Belarus. The two have played only once before, with Tomova winning 7-6(4), 6-4 in 2016 at the Budapest tournament.

The tournament in Miami has a prize purse of almost USD 9 million, and by qualifying for the second round Viktoriya Tomova received 35 points and USD 35,260 from the prize purse.
