The Professor Tsvetan Lazarov Bulgarian Defence Institute is 9th out of the 23 most successful scientific organizations for the number of projects approved under the European Defence Fund, according to the rankings of the Foundation for Strategic Research, an independent French nongovernmental organization.  The Institute is the only Bulgarian scientific organization included in the rankings, the Bulgarian Defence Ministry said in a press release Friday.

The Foundation has recently published an analysis of the results of three rounds of project applications to the European Defence Fund. The analysis covers the 2021-2023 period. During that period, the Bulgarian Defence Institute won 12 collaborative research and development projects, and is the coordinator of one of them, ACTING.

Ahead of the Bulgarian Defence Institute in the rankings are Germany's Fraunhofer, the Netherlands' TNO, the Austrian Institute of Technology, France's Office National D'etudes Et De Recherches Aerospatiales and Commissariat A L'energie Atomique Et Aux Energies Alternatives, Norway's FFI - Forsvarets Forskninginstitutt, Sweden's FOI - Totalforsvarets Forskningsinstitut, and Germany's DLR - Deutsches Zentrum Fur Luft Und Raumfahrt. The Bulgarian Defence Institute partners with most of these organizations in various consortia for the implementation of research projects, the press release said.
