On Tuesday, Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov received Australia’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Alison Duncan, who is based in Athens, the Bulgarian Defence Ministry said.
Minister Zapryanov briefed Ambassador Duncan on the priorities of the current Bulgarian government in the field of defense, including key modernization projects for the Bulgarian Armed Forces.
Both sides praised the friendly relations between their countries and discussed topics of mutual interest, including Australia's traditionally strong partnership with NATO and prospects for cooperation within the framework of the EU–Australia dialogue.
The meeting also addressed current aspects of the rapidly evolving global security environment. Both parties expressed readiness and willingness to deepen bilateral relations and strengthen their partnership, based on mutual respect, shared democratic values, and common strategic goals.
The meeting was also attended by Lieutenant General Krasimir Kanev, Deputy Chief of Defence.
