Fruit prices declined over the past week, while some staple food items and vegetables saw an increase, according to data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.

The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went up by 0.64% to 2.197 points. Last week, the index stood at 2.183 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

The price of greenhouse tomatoes went up by 5.5% to BGN 3.84 per kilogramme, while greenhouse cucumbers fell by 3% to BGN 3.15/kg.

Onions appreciated by 0.7% to BGN 1.14/kg, lettuce by 6.2% to BGN 1.16 per piece, carrots by 1.7% to BGN 1.18/kg. The price of garlic fell by 2% to 5.75/kg, potatoes depreciated by 2.9% to BGN 1.20/kg and cabbage by 3.6% to BGN 1.29/kg.

Oranges dropped by 4.1% to BGN 2.08/kg, tangerines by 1.7% to BGN 2.38/kg, grapefruits by 1.3% to BGN 2.32/kg, bananas by 0.2% to BGN 2.66/kg, apples by 0.9% to BGN 1.70/kg. The price of lemons rose by 2.7% to BGN 2.32/kg.

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk increase by 1.2% to BGN 11.64/kg, while the price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type went down by 0.3% to BGN 17.26/kg.

Yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) fell by 1.9% to BGN 1.26 for a cup of 400 grammes. The price of fresh milk (with a fat content of 3%) increased by 2.6% to BGN 2.36 per litre.

The price of chicken went up by 0.9% to BGN 6.42/kg. Eggs (size M) appreciated by 2.9% to BGN 0.35 per piece.

Rice rose by 2.3% to BGN 3.44/kg. Lentils fell by 0.5% to BGN 4.44/kg and dry common beans depreciated by 0.5% to BGN 4.42/kg.

The price of cooking oil went up by 4.8% to BGN 3.26/litre. Flour (type 500) rose by 4.4% to BGN 1.37/kg. Sugar appreciated by 2.8%, selling at BGN 1.99/kg. The price of butter from cow’s milk fell by 0.2% to BGN 3.03 for a pack of 125 grammes.
