Bulgaria's head of State, Rumen Radev, will attend the opening ceremony of the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris on Saturday, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, the Bulgarian President's Press Secretariat said.
President Radev is on a working visit to France, which will continue until December 9.
During his visit, he will travel to Strasbourg, where he is scheduled to meet with Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, as well as leaders of various bodies within the organization. Established after World War II, Europe's oldest intergovernmental organization is dedicated to advancing human rights, rule of law, and democracy in the region.
Some 40 heads of state and government are expected to attend the Notre-Dame reopening ceremony, marking the cathedral's restoration after a devastating fire five years ago, Agence France-Presse reported. Among the attendees will be US President-elect Donald Trump and the presidents of Germany, Italy, Poland, Croatia, Finland, Georgia, Kosovo, and Lithuania. US First Lady Jill Biden, representing President Joe Biden, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will also participate.
